Prof. Dr. Markus Roth
Prof. Dr. Markus Roth, Professor of Laser and Plasma Physics at the TU Darmstadt. After studying physics in Darmstadt, he moved to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California as a postdoc. He is the discoverer of laser-generated ion beams and inventor of the concept for proton fast ignition in laser fusion. He was appointed to the Institute of Nuclear Physics at TU-Darmstadt in 2003. Prof. Dr. Roth developed laser-driven neutron sources in 2012 and became honorary Professor in Kyoto, Fellow of the American Physical Society and recipient of the Rosen Scholar Award. He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of high-power lasers and relativistic plasma physics. Prof Dr. Roth has more than 20 years of experience in the field of nuclear fusion and ion acceleration by ultrashort pulse lasers. He also acts as consultant to international organizations (DOE, IAEA, BMBF, STCF). Prof. Dr. Markus Roth is the founder and Chief Science Officer of Focused Energy since 2021.
